Abstract

The waste problem is one of the focuses of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including in educational institutions such as Islamic boarding schools.. Islamic boarding schools, as educational institutions based on religious and social values, have a strategic role in shaping the ecological awareness of students and the surrounding community. However, there are still Islamic boarding schools that have not been able to make a real contribution to optimizing waste management systematically and sustainably. This study aims to examine the role of Walisongo Ngabar Islamic Boarding School in managing waste and its contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study research type. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature studies. Data analysis of this study uses the Johnny Saldana, Miles, and Huberman model with data condensation analysis techniques, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that Walisongo Ngabar Islamic Boarding School has implemented a sustainable waste management program by collecting waste from two landfills, sorting waste, and incineration. The ash from the incineration is used to make huruk, fertilizer for all types of plants, and concrete blocks. The waste processing process also involves local residents, thus creating employment opportunities. The results of the sorted waste that is not incinerated can be sold to the waste bank.
