Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji "Jaman Bendhu" sebagai memori kolektif masyarakat Kediri, Blitar, dan Tulungagung dalam merespons bencana alam. Konsep Jaman Bendhu (masa kemarahan alam) menjadi kerangka bersama untuk memahami rentetan letusan Gunung Kelud dan banjir Sungai Brantas yang dialami komunitas tersebut. Dengan metode kualitatif (etnografi-historis), penelitian ini menggali narasi lisan, legenda lokal, ritual, serta pengalaman warga lintas generasi. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa memori kolektif Jaman Bendhu hidup melalui legenda Lembu Suro (sumpah Gunung Kelud) dan ramalan Jayabaya tentang zaman kalabendu. Ingatan komunal ini diwariskan lewat cerita rakyat dan tradisi ritual (misalnya upacara larung sesaji Kelud dan simbol Tetek Melek) yang berfungsi sebagai penanda peringatan bencana sekaligus pedoman moral. Memori kolektif tersebut terbukti memperkuat kesiapsiagaan masyarakat: warga lebih waspada terhadap tanda alam, cepat melakukan evakuasi mandiri, serta mempertahankan gotong royong pascabencana. Namun, tantangan muncul pada generasi muda yang cenderung menjauh dari cerita tradisional, sehingga integrasi kearifan lokal dengan edukasi dan manajemen bencana modern menjadi penting. Secara keseluruhan, memori kolektif Jaman Bendhu merupakan modal budaya yang berperan signifikan dalam meningkatkan ketangguhan komunitas menghadapi bencana alam.
